Sound of Science

Sound of Science Story

It’s hard being a sewer rat. All day the rats hear the drip, drip, drip of the rain, and filth falling from above, into the place they called home. Water sloshes nearby, polluting them with the filth of humans from above. The sounds of cars driving by, mocking them, tempting them to come closer to warmth, to shelter, to a better life. They can hear people talking, not worrying if they will die the next day. Humans don’t have to worry about food, or warmth. They don’t question luxury, it’s just life for them. Rats are never satisfied, going to sleep hungry is just how it is, it always has been, it always will be. On top of that they are not seen at beautiful, far from it in fact. They hear screams often wondering why it seems all others turn away in disgust. Their filthy fur and their scrawny bodies, send a feeling of resentment into humans from the moments they set eyes on the sewer rats. Beating the rats to close death and disguising poison as food, rats become desperate. Rage fills their body, as every scary, sad, or angry moment floods though their mind, feeding the rage. They become hungry for more than just food. They crave revenge and death, and become deadly. Anyone who crosses their path will face a bloody death. They do not care how many they kill or injure, just as long as they are still alive at the end of the day. They love no one for they know no one loves them back. A silent war begins, between the humans and the sewer rats.
